Artist Statement

My greatest desire is to push the limits of my medium, expose the beauty of raw clay, and to leave my audience with a sense of calm and curiosity.

I achieve these goals by creating abstract works that focus on the natural world and emphasize the feminine form. In addition many of these pieces I assemble much like a puzzle, allowing me and my audience to explore the relationship of lines and connection.

I work with various clay mixtures - porcelain clay, brown stoneware, black Spanish clay, and paper clay - throwing each piece individually on the wheel, and then altering them to achieve soft, feminine forms. Some clay may be mixed with mason stains while others are left in their raw state, exposing their natural hues. Once dried I fire the pieces in an electric kiln. Some I pass through a second, primitive smoke fire wherein I use different techniques to obtain their surface design.

About Me

I am a self-taught ceramic artist who was first introduced to clay in 2012. From 2015-2020 I created and sold functional ceramics as a business. Today, I reside in Chattanooga Tenessee where I work in various clay bodies producing fine art. My work is primarily informed by my personal experiences as a woman and mother, my love of God the Creator and the natural world. When not in the studio, you can find me enjoying my jo as a mother: playing with my three small children, hiking, sailing, grocery shopping and preparing meals for my family.
